Covid Status

New Year ‘Catch up’

The Covid19 virus situation is obviously worsening with these new strains which annoyingly appear to have developed their ability to spread more quickly and which have left the powers that be with little or perhaps no alternative but to require more and more of us to stay at home and not visit anyone or indeed go anywhere except for a lonely stroll in a public space. Clearly this impacts directly on the way we conduct our lives and obviously the way in which we can run or organise the branch going forward. I have talked with some of our committee members and we are collectively of the view that my preparing a Branch Programme for 2021 would be a futile exercise as, although while we hoped we might, we do not have any understanding of when we will be allowed to meet up again and in many cases my guess would be that members would question the wisdom of doing do.

The good news is that we have the Pfizer vaccine approved and now being given, with the ‘Oxford’ vaccine likely to be approved imminently so hope is on the horizon. I will be in contact with a couple of the speakers that we had arranged to come to the branch last year, but had to cancel and and make sure that as and when we can meet we have talks in place, and of course gradually put in place a ‘full’ programme for when ‘normality’ in whatever form it takes returns. We will hold our AGM on Jan 26th. I shall send a Zoom invite to you all in the hope that you will be able to and indeed want to join, albeit I fear I cannot promise ‘wine and bites’ over the airwaves! We will also upload the details on our website, which in addition will be updated with meetings as soon as we are able to announce them.

Reducing my professional work will hopefully enable me to get back into my workshop and pick up some of the horological projects that have been lying dormant for far too long, and I will send details to our web-master when they have sufficiently advanced to consider uploading in the hope that they might prove interesting. I do hope that those of you who are already working on projects of horological interest which you might like to share with others will also send the details off to Bob, it’s important that we keep the website up to date and interesting especially in these continuing unsettling and dark times.

In the meantime I wish you all the best possible New Year, surely it will be far far better than 2020, I do hope so.

Stay safe and well.
